They were lying, the best band in Sheffield isn’t The Artic Monkeys

The Artic Monkey’s were a breakthrough band a few years ago, and despite having a collection of songs that mostly sound the same, they still haven’t died. They’re success was touted as the revival of Sheffield’s music scene, but it seems like only the drone bands are championed and the interesting stuff is left by the wayside.

The Long Blonde’s are another famed Sheffield export, but the vocals grate me like I wasn’t paying attention with that block of Parmesan and drenched my pizza topping with my own tomato sauce. I think that they are just blah and have been adopted into the in crowd, like a little deformed kitten or a foreign exchange student that you have to be friends with, because the teacher just gave a talk about social inclusion or some shit.

I didn’t really buy into Pulp either, like The Artics and the Long Blondes, they managed to summon a mixture of boredom and aggravation everytime they disturbed the air around my ears.

But after a healthy session of Myspace rape, I found many awesome ditties that I would like to share, the first one being ’ I Monster ‘

I had heard some of their songs before on adverts and such, but then I came across this one, it’s an oldie, but apparently they have a new album out this year…

Dean Honer from the group was a member of the All Seeing Eye and I-Monster is released on Cerca Records, which is co founded with Add n to X, all Sheffield based, so now when my friend Jenny Pop heads up north, we know that if we ignore the pr buzz, there should be many a night to be had, but good god, it took some looking.
